Who April teaches
April works with a wide range of riders. Some are kids getting comfortable around horses for the first time. Some are adults learning to ride, or returning after years away. Others already compete and want to improve their barrel and pole performance.
That range is deliberate. Blazin Hot Performance is built for riders at every stage, from a first walk around the arena to preparing for a rodeo.
How lessons are shaped
Every rider progresses differently, so April adjusts each lesson around four things:
- Experience. What the rider can already do safely, and what comes next.
- Confidence. A nervous rider and a bold rider need different lessons, even at the same skill level.
- The horse. Whether it's a BHP lesson horse or the rider's own, the horse's temperament and training shape the plan.
- Goals. Trail riding, general horsemanship, barrels, poles or competition.
Teaching philosophy
April's approach is summed up in the BHP motto: Correct first. Consistent second. Speed comes after.
For a beginner, that means reliable steering and stopping before trotting. For a barrel racer, it means a correct pattern before chasing a time. Good habits built early are easier to keep than bad habits are to fix, and they keep both horse and rider safer.
What April teaches
- Beginner horse riding lessons covering safety, grooming, saddling, balance, steering, stopping and walk/trot work
- Kids horse riding lessons and adult horse riding lessons
- Western riding and horsemanship, including groundwork and communication
- Barrel racing lessons and pole bending lessons
- Rodeo and competition preparation
Lessons can be private or group, on a BHP lesson horse or your own horse.
Where April teaches
Lessons are held at the BHP property in Roy, Washington, or at a local arena when that suits the lesson and rider better. Riders come from Yelm, Graham, Spanaway, McKenna, Eatonville, Puyallup, Tacoma and nearby communities. See the service area page for details.
