What age can children start riding lessons?
BHP teaches riders of all ages and doesn't publish a fixed minimum age. Whether a child is ready depends on whether they can listen to and follow instructions, stay focused for a lesson, balance on a horse and follow safety rules. Share your child's age and a little about them in your lesson request and April can talk through readiness with you. Can adults take beginner lessons?
Yes. Adults are welcome at every level, including people who have never ridden and riders returning after years away. See adult horse riding lessons for what adult lessons cover.
Can complete beginners take lessons?
Yes. Complete beginners are welcome. First lessons focus on horse safety, grooming, saddling, balance, steering and stopping, at a pace that fits the rider. See beginner horse riding lessons.
Horses
Do beginners need their own horse?
No. BHP has beginner-friendly lesson horses, which is how most new riders start. You don't need to buy or lease a horse to take lessons. Read do you need your own horse to take riding lessons? for more.
Can riders bring their own horses?
Yes. You're welcome to bring your own horse. Lessons with your own horse can focus on general riding, horsemanship, barrels, poles or performance work, and address that horse's specific habits. Tell us about your horse when you request a lesson.
Lesson formats
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes. Private lessons give one rider the instructor's full attention and are available for every type of lesson BHP teaches. See private riding lessons.
Do you offer group lessons?

Speed events
Do you teach barrel racing?
Yes. Barrel racing lessons cover pattern fundamentals, approaches, turns, rider position, consistency and controlled speed, for new and experienced barrel racers. See barrel racing lessons.
Do you teach pole bending?
Yes. Pole bending lessons focus on straightness, positioning, timing, control, consistency and building speed gradually. See pole bending lessons.
Preparing for your lesson
What should riders wear?
Wear long pants, closed-toe boots with a small heel, and fitted layers you don't mind getting dirty. Avoid sneakers, sandals, loose scarves and dangling jewelry. How much do lessons cost?
Lesson pricing is still being finalized. Send a lesson request and BHP will share current pricing along with availability.
Location and booking
Where are lessons located?
Blazin Hot Performance is based in Roy, Washington. Lessons are held at the BHP property in Roy or at a local arena when that's a better fit for the lesson and rider, and details are confirmed when BHP follows up. BHP has one home base and doesn't hold lessons in other towns, but welcomes riders from Yelm, Graham, Spanaway, McKenna, Eatonville, Puyallup, Tacoma and nearby communities. How do customers request a lesson?
Fill out the lesson request form with the rider's name, age, experience, the type of lesson you're interested in, private or group, and whether you'll use a BHP horse or your own. It takes about two minutes. April follows up by phone or email about availability, location and pricing. You can also email blazinhotperformance@gmail.com.
